The Dividend Aristocrats

I'm just now reading and finding out about a group of companies called the S&P’s Dividend Aristocrats, they are companies that have continually increased their dividend for the past 25 + years. That is an amazing feat for a company to pull off, it implies that they have strong financials and a continued stream of revenue (through the good and the bad).

I found a few really good posts on the Dividend Growth Investor (DGI) about the Dividend Aristocrats and why he likes them. I don't blame him for his love of the dividend producers, since 1989 (19 years) they have had averaged annual total returns of 12.93% per year, that' about 11.7% higher than the S&P 500 for the same time period.

But before you go out and scoop up some of the S&P elite like I wanted to, understand that they, just like the rest of the market are taking a huge hit. Over the long run however, I think that investing in dividend yeilding companies is the way to go. They usually offer the stability and growth that one looks for in a long term investment strategy (at least in my opinion that is).
